Abstract

There has been debate recently about selling nonprescription medicines (NPMs) outside the pharmacy. Thisstudy thus aimed to compare the merits and demerits of outside sales of NPMs from the viewpoints of psychologicalhealth, safety, and convenience. The study surveyed consumers who would be bought NPMs outside the pharmacy andanalyzed their answers. It was conducted on nonprescription medicine buyers among consumers who visited the pharmacy.
The results show that the consumers desire medical treatment by a doctor more than they desire outside sales of NPMs.
Thus, it is necessary for doctors to devote more time to treatment. In addition, we suggest that pharmacists need toconsolidate and evolve their role in assisting patients with self-care.
